Faeces are formed in the colon and later on stored in the last part of colon known as sigmoid colon.

Meconium is the earliest stool of a mammalian infant. Unlike later faeces, meconium is composed of materials ingested during the time the infant spends in the uterus: intestinal epithelial cells, lanugo, mucus, amniotic fluid, bile and water.

Lacteals facilitate the transportation of digested fats from the villi of the small intestine.

Absorption of aspirin, almost all alcohol,  and water  takes place in stomach.

Some molecules are simply too big to get across the membrane by diffusion or active transport. Absorption of intact proteins like antibiodies takes place in this manner.

Dipeptides and tripeptides are transported into the enterocytes by an H+ ion dependent co-transporter.

The absorption of all dietary lipids in the intestine takes place by simple diffusion. Bile salts form micelles with long chain fatty acids and monosaccharides, and aids in their transportation.

Vitamin B12 combines with intrinsic factor and is absorbed in the ilium by active transport mechanism.

Dipeptides are transported into the intestinal cells by both Na-dependent and Na-independent facilitated diffusion. The Na-independent process of transport involves hydrogen peptide co-transport along a hydrogen gradient. In most systems, dipeptide transport is coupled with sodium uptake.

Vitamin A absorption is hampered due to Zn deficiency.

Magnesium behaves antagonistically to fluoride absorption. Magnesium competes with fluoride and decreases the absorption of that mineral when taken at the same time. This protects the body from harmful effects of fluorine.

Copper is necessary for iron absorption, and its deficiency can lead to low iron levels.

Sodium-dependent glucose co-transporters (or sodium-glucose linked transporter, SGLT) are a family of glucose transporters found in the intestinal mucosa.

VitaminB5 or pantothenic acid inhibits the absorption of biotin if taken in high doses. In the same way, excess of biotin can reduce the absorption of pantothenic acid.
