Dalhousie was keen on annexing the kingdom of Oudh (Awadh), but the task presented certain difficulties. Finally, Lord Dalhousie hit upon the idea of alleviating the plight of the people of Awadh. At last, it was annexed in 1856.

The Charter Act of 1833 centralised the administration in India. The Governor General of Bengal, according to the act, was declared as the Governor General of India. The jurisdiction of the Governor General in council was extended considerably.

The East India Company Act, 1784, also known as Pitt's India Act, provided for the appointment of a Board of Control.

(1) The First Anglo-Burmese War (1824–1826) ended in a British East India Company victory and by the Treaty of Yandabo. Burma lost territory previously conquered in Assam, Manipur and Arakan.
(2) The First Anglo-Afghan War was fought between the British East India Company and Afghanistan from 1839 to 1842.
(3) The First Anglo-Maratha War (1775–1782) was the first of the three Anglo-Maratha wars fought between the British East India Company and Maratha Empire in India.
(4) The Second Anglo–Mysore War (1780–1784) was a conflict between the Kingdom of Mysore and the British East India Company.

Sarfaraz Khan and Mir Mohammad Jaffer Ali Khan (Mir Jaffer) were the only Nawabs to become the Nawab twice.

John Surman led the English Mission to the Mughal Court in 1715 that successfully obtained a farman from Emperor Farrukhsiyar in 1717. This farman granted the British valuable trade concessions and exemption from customs duties. The mission was significant in strengthening British commercial position in India.

The Dutch established their first factory on the Coromandel coast at Masulipatam (present-day Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh) in 1611. This became an important center for Dutch textile trade. Porto-Novo, Sadraspatam, and Nizampatnam were acquired later as the Dutch expanded their presence along the eastern coast.

The Regulating Act of 1773 was an act of the Parliament of Great Britain intended to overhaul the management of the East India Company's rule in India. The Act did not prove to be a long-term solution to concerns over the Company's affairs; Pitt's India Act was subsequently enacted in 1784 as a more radical reform.
