Food For Plants

Carbohydrate is a by-product of food prepared by the plants. It is not required by the plants to produce food.

Mode of taking food by an organism and its utilization by the body is known as Nutrition.

Leaves are known as the 'food factories of plants' because the food making process in the plants, mainly occurs in the leaves.

Stomata helps the leaves to intake carbon dioxide. These are tiny pores present over the leaf surface.

Chlorophyll is a green coloured pigment that is present in green leaves and absent in yellow leaves. It helps to make food in the auto-trophic plants.

During the process of Photosynthesis, oxygen is evolved.

Auto means self and Troph means nourishment. Hence,  autotrophs are the living things that make food themselves from simple substances.

Carbohydrates get converted into starch or sugar.

People are advised not to sleep under trees during night. The reason is that, the trees give carbon dioxide during night.

The phenomenon of preparation of food by plants is known as Photosynthesis. It is due to the requirement of sunlight. Photo means light and synthesis means combine.

The sap is carried from the leaves to the stem through veins.

The food of the plant is in the form of sweet juice, known as sap.

Plants make their food in the form of carbohydrates.

Cactus plants have chlorophyll in the stems.

Croton has coloured leaves.
