Electricity

An electric current is a flow of electric charge. Electric charge flows when there is voltage present across a conductor.

It is an electronic switch which protects a circuit from damage caused by overload or short circuit.

A potentiometer (informally a pot), is a three-terminal resistor with a sliding contact that forms an adjustable voltage divider.

A device whose resistance to electric current depends on the position of some mechanical element or control in the device.

An electrical insulator is a material whose internal electric charges do not flow freely, which does not conduct an electric current under the influence of an electric field.

An electric current is a flow of electric charge. Voltage is electric potential energy per unit charge. Resistance is a property of a conductor due to which it opposes the flow of current through it.

Similar charges repel each other.

Rheostat is the variable resistance, i.e. we can vary the value of resistor using rheostat. Rheostat is not energy source. It is used only to increase or decrease the given voltage value in lab experiments.

Valence, also known as valency or valence number, is the number of valence bonds a given atom has formed or can form, with one or more atoms. For most elements the number of bonds can vary.

An amount by which a quantity is decreased.

Conductor is an object or type of material which permits the flow of electric charges in one or more directions. For example, a wire is an electrical conductor that can carry electricity along its length.

The coulomb (symbol: C) is the SI derived unit of electric charge (symbol: Q or q). It is defined as the charge transported by a steady current of one ampere in one second.

An electrolyte is a compound that ionises when dissolved in suitable ionising solvents such as water.

A resistor is a passive two-terminal electrical component that implements electrical resistance as a circuit element. The current through a resistor is in direct proportion to the voltage across the resistor's terminals. This relationship is represented by Ohm's law, i.e.V = IR

Where I is the current through the conductor in units of amperes, V is the potential difference measured across the conductor in units of volts, and R is the resistance of the conductor in units of ohms.
