Plants: Parts and Functions

The trunk, branches and twigs of the tree are covered with bark. The outer bark, which originates from phloem cells that have worn out, died and been shed outward, acts as a suit of armor against the world by protecting the tree from insects, disease, storms and extreme temperatures. In certain species, the outer bark also protects the tree from fire.

During the day, in presence of sunlight, the plants use up the carbon dioxide and release oxygen as a byproduct. But during night they are unable to use the carbon dioxide and this leads to increase in the proportion of carbon dioxide in the air. During night the trees breathe in oxygen and release carbon dioxide. If one stands under the trees, the amount of increased carbon dioxide in the air around will certainly affect the health. So it is not inadvisable to stand or sleep under trees during night.

A fibrous root system has many roots growing in many directions. It does not have one main root. A fibrous root system is usually wider than deep. Grass has fibrous root system.

Bananas do not have any seeds.

One of the most beneficial factors from live plants in the aquarium is the supply of oxygen. Oxygen is very essential to the survival of the biological system and inhabitants of any aquarium. Through a process known as “photosynthesis,” live plants utilise the carbohydrates from inorganic substances such as water and carbon dioxide (which is respired by fish) as a food source and in turn, release oxygen as a by-product.

The desert is a harsh, unforgiving environment. It is just as hazardous to plants as it is to animals. Temperatures swing wildly between extremes in a desert.The most extreme form of this adaptation is found in the desert plants like cacti, whose stems and leaves have been reduced so much that only spines remain. These spines also can shade the plant, helping it conserve even more moisture. With cacti, the primary photosynthetic activity has been moved to the stalk, the main body of the plant and away from the leaves.

Edible plant stems are a part of plants that are eaten by humans. The edible portion is an underground stem that is also a tuber. The eyes of the potato are lateral buds. Potatoes come in white, yellow, orange, or purple-coloured varieties. Some more examples of edible stems are garlic, broccoli and onion.

Leaves provide trees with all their food because they turn sunlight into food energy through photosynthesis. Leaves also produce oxygen in the air that we breathe.

We get all of the above things from trees and plants.

Plants are divided in to two main parts, roots and shoots. Roots are the anchor for plants in the soil. Water and minerals are taken from the soil through the roots. Many plants such as carrots, store food in their roots. And the shoot system includes organs such as leaves, buds, stems, flowers, and fruits and usually it develops above ground.

Chlorophyll is a green pigment found in plants. It is often described as the 'green blood of plants. It plays a crucial role in producing food for green plants by synthesising simple sugars (glucose) from carbon dioxide and and water in the process of photosynthesis. 

During the process of photosynthesis, plants release oxygen into the air. Plants use carbon dioxide, which they get from their leaves and water, from the roots and sunlight which they get from the sun in order to photosynthesise. The process of photosynthesising is when the plant uses its chlorophyll (that is what makes plants green) to change water, sunlight and carbon dioxide.

Mango is a single seed fruit.

Leaves help the plant in the process of exchange of gases like carbon dioxide and oxygen. Leaves provide trees with all their food because they turn sunlight into food energy through photosynthesis.

Flowers generally are the showy part of a plant. Their beauty and fragrance attract pollinators (insects or birds) that play an important role in the reproductive process. Through reproductive process they can produce their kind of plants.
