Ivo Bligh, the English captain who led the 1882-83 tour to Australia, was presented with the Ashes urn. After England's defeat at The Oval, Bligh promised to 'recover those ashes.' His team won the series 2-1, and he was given a small terracotta urn containing ashes (allegedly from a bail burnt after a Melbourne social match). The urn is now displayed at Lord's in the MCC museum.
