Thuvara Paruppu is the Tamil name for Thoor Dhal (also known as Toor Dal or Pigeon Pea), which is a staple lentil used in South Indian cooking, especially for making sambar. It is different from Moong Dhal (Pasi Paruppu) which is lighter yellow in color.
