Raja Rammohan Roy was the first Indian to travel to England in 1830-1833 as the Mughal Emperor's ambassador to challenge the ban on sati and present Indian perspectives. While Prince Dwarakanath Tagore visited England later (1842), and Satyendranath Tagore was the first Indian to join the ICS (1863), Raja Rammohan Roy's earlier visit established this precedent. His mission was primarily advocacy for social reform and presenting Indian intellectual achievements.
