Santiago is the capital and largest city of Chile, located in a valley surrounded by the Andes mountains. It's Chile's political and cultural center. Peru, Ecuador, and Uruguay are all South American countries but Santiago is not their capital (their capitals are Lima, Quito, and Montevideo respectively).
