Allergic conjunctivitis is a well-recognized condition where allergens cause inflammation of the conjunctiva (the membrane lining the eyelids and covering the white of the eye), causing redness, itching, and tearing. This is commonly associated with allergic rhinitis ('hay fever') and represents one of the standard manifestations of allergic disease affecting the eyes.
