The Pipal tree (Ficus religiosa), also known as the sacred fig or peepal tree, is referred to as the Bodhi tree in Buddhist tradition. It is under a Pipal tree that Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment and became the Buddha. The original Bodhi tree at Bodh Gaya is a Pipal tree. Neem, Banyan, and Eucalyptus are different tree species with no connection to the Bodhi designation.
