The bear spray didn't work. It usually does, but sometimes a bear is too enraged to care. Bear spray doesn't make you invincible. The grizzly is almost on top of you. What now?

When bear spray fails and physical contact is imminent, playing dead is the last resort - drop to ground, protect vital areas (head, stomach), and remain motionless. Fighting back (A, B, C) escalates the attack and causes more severe injuries. Grizzlies often stop attacking once the threat appears neutralized; playing dead signals you're no longer a threat.
