Astra is an Indian beyond visual range air-to-air missile (BVR-AAM) developed by DRDO. As the name suggests and its classification indicates, it is designed to be launched from aircraft to engage other aircraft in aerial combat. It is not designed for surface-to-air or surface-to-surface operations.
