The Sanskrit word 'chattra' or 'chatra' (छत्र) means 'umbrella', 'parasol', or 'canopy' - something that provides shade or protection from above. While umbrellas were symbols of royalty, the word itself refers to the protective canopy. It doesn't mean a building like marriage halls, conference halls, or guest houses - those would be different terms like 'kalyāṇa-śālā' or 'bhakta-nivāsa'.
