Tristan da Cunha in the South Atlantic Ocean is known as the world's loneliest island because it is the most remote inhabited archipelago, located approximately 2,400 km from the nearest inhabited land (Saint Helena). Baffin Islands, Borneo, and Sumatra are all much larger and closer to continental landmasses or other islands.
