Train à Grande Vitesse (TGV) is France's high-speed train and was the world's fastest when introduced. The name literally means 'high-speed train' in French. While Shinkansen (Japan) is also famous, TGV held speed records. The other options are variations but the French TGV system is most recognized as pioneering high-speed rail.
