Cleopatra VII, the last active ruler of Ptolemaic Egypt, had a famous romantic and political alliance with Mark Antony (Marcus Antonius), the Roman general and triumvir. Their relationship was both personal and strategic, forming against Octavian (later Augustus). This union ended with their双双 suicides after their defeat at the Battle of Actium in 31 BCE.
