Charles Babbage is credited with conceptualizing and designing the first automatic computing engine - the Analytical Engine in the 1830s. He is often called the 'father of the computer.' Konrad Zuse built the first programmable computer in 1941, but Babbage's earlier work laid the theoretical foundation.
