Alexandre Dumas (also known as Alexandre Dumas père) wrote The Count of Monte Cristo in 1844, a tale of revenge and redemption following Edmond Dantès' wrongful imprisonment. The novel is one of Dumas' most famous works, alongside The Three Musketeers. Jules Verne wrote science fiction, Lewis Carroll wrote Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and Jonathan Swift wrote Gulliver's Travels.
