'Ulysses' is a 1922 modernist novel by James Joyce, set in Dublin on a single day (June 16, 1904). It's considered one of the most important works of modernist literature. Theodore Dreiser wrote An American Tragedy, D.H. Lawrence wrote Lady Chatterley's Lover, and John Milton wrote Paradise Lost (much earlier, 17th century).
