Emil von Behring received the first Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1901 for his work on serum therapy, particularly the development of diphtheria antitoxin. Martin J. Evans, Elizabeth H. Blackburn, and Mario R. Capecchi all won Nobel Prizes much later in the 2000s.
