Who invented the ball point pen in the year 1938?

Laszlo Biro, a Hungarian journalist, invented the modern ballpoint pen in 1938. His design used a tiny ball bearing that rolled ink onto paper, solving the problem of ink flow that plagued earlier fountain pens. While John Loud patented an earlier version in 1888, it wasn't commercially viable. Biro's invention is why ballpoint pens are still called 'biros' in many countries.
