Venus is the brightest planet in Earth's sky because it's relatively close to both Earth and the Sun, and it has a highly reflective atmosphere of sulfuric acid clouds. Mars, Jupiter, and Pluto are dimmer in Earth's sky. Note that Pluto is classified as a dwarf planet, not a major planet.
