Raipur has been the capital of Chhattisgarh since the state's formation in 2000 when it separated from Madhya Pradesh. Bilaspur, Durg, and Bhilai are important cities in Chhattisgarh but not the capital. Raipur was chosen for its central location and infrastructure.
