Who was the poor friend of Lord Krishna?

Sudama was Lord Krishna's childhood friend from the gurukula (school) who remained poor throughout his life while Krishna became a king. Their friendship is legendary in Hindu tradition as an example of true friendship beyond wealth and status. When Sudama visited Krishna with a handful of flattened rice (poha), Krishna treated him with great love and hospitality, and Sudama returned to find his humble hut transformed into a mansion - Krishna's blessing for his devoted friend.
