Epithelial tissue lines organs like the intestines, lungs, and kidneys, where it regulates the absorption and secretion of nutrients, gases, and waste products. This makes it the primary tissue responsible for controlling the passage of substances into and out of the body. Other tissues like muscle and nerve do not directly form these selective transport barriers.
