Historically and in introductory biology, living things are most commonly and broadly divided into plants (producers) and animals (consumers). While modern taxonomy recognizes more kingdoms (such as Fungi, Protista, and Monera/Bacteria), plants and animals remain the two most prominent and widely studied groups of multicellular organisms.
