Philadelphia was home to America's first stock exchange, founded in 1790 - predating the more famous New York Stock Exchange (1817). The Philadelphia Stock Exchange was the nation's oldest, operating for over 200 years. Columbus (Ohio), Alaska (a territory, not city), and Atlanta were not financial centers in early American history.
