Winston Churchill served as British Prime Minister during most of World War II, from 1940 to 1945. He led Britain through its darkest hours and was instrumental in the Allied victory. His leadership and inspirational speeches are credited with maintaining British morale during the war. Tony Blair and Margaret Thatcher were much later Prime Ministers, and John Major served after Thatcher.
