How do beta-blockers work?
These medications work by preventing clots in the vessels leading to the heart.
These medications work by decreasing the heart rate.
These medications work by dilating the veins.
These medications work by incresing the heart rate.
Beta-blockers work primarily by blocking the effects of epinephrine (adrenaline) on beta receptors, which results in decreased heart rate and reduced blood pressure. They do not prevent clots (that's antiplatelets/anticoagulants), dilate veins (that's vasodilators), or increase heart rate (that would be counterproductive for their purpose).
