Puducherry (formerly Pondicherry) is the capital of the Puducherry Union Territory. The other options - Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam - are the other districts/enclaves of this UT but not the capital. Puducherry city is on the coast of Tamil Nadu and was a former French colony.
