The Sociable Weaver of southern Africa builds enormous communal nests that can house hundreds of birds and weigh tons. These massive structures built on trees or poles are the largest individual nests of any bird species. Ostriches dig nest scrapes but don't build structures, while quelea birds weave smaller nests.
