A modem (modulator-demodulator) is a device that modulates and demodulates analog signals to encode and decode digital data for transmission. It converts digital computer signals into analog signals for transmission over telephone lines, and then converts the analog signals back into digital form at the receiving end. This technology enabled early internet connectivity through phone lines.
