Mahatma Gandhi was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize five times (1937, 1938, 1939, 1947, and 1948, the last nomination being posthumous shortly after his assassination). Despite being one of the most iconic nominees, he never received the prize. The Nobel Committee has expressed regret that he was not awarded the prize.
