Blood gets its red color from haemoglobin, a protein containing iron that binds to oxygen in red blood cells. Haemoglobin turns bright red when oxygenated and darker red when deoxygenated. Plasma is actually yellowish, platelets are cell fragments for clotting, and capillaries are tiny blood vessels.
