Cisplatin, cis-PtCl2(NH3)2, is an anti-cancer drug that is used to treat various types of cancers. On moderate heating, Ni(CO)4 decomposes to form carbon monoxide and nickel metal. Combined with the easy formation from CO and even impure nickel, this decomposition is the basis of Mond's process for the purification of nickel.
