The Ajanta Caves are a series of approximately 30 rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments located in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra, India. They date from the 2nd century BCE to about 480 CE and are famous for their exquisite paintings and sculptures. They are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
