In the Ramayana, Surpanakha (also called Kamavalli) was the demoness sister of Ravana who attempted to marry Rama. When she tried to harm Sita, Lakshmana defended her by cutting off Surpanakha's nose and ears. This incident was a major trigger for Ravana's abduction of Sita. Ahalya, Mandodari, and Tara are all important female characters in the epics but were not the ones mutilated by Lakshmana.
