Santalum (sandalwood) is a partial (hemiparasitic) parasite. It photosynthesizes and produces its own organic compounds but obtains water and mineral nutrients from host plant roots through specialized organs called haustoria. This distinguishes it from total parasites that cannot photosynthesize.
