Delhi has the maximum number of historical monuments among Indian cities, being the capital of multiple empires (Mughal, Sultanate, British). It has over 1,200 heritage buildings and monuments including three World Heritage Sites (Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, Red Fort). Kolkata, Mumbai, and Bhubaneswar have fewer monuments by comparison.
