Karl Benz invented the first practical petrol-powered automobile in 1885-1886 in Germany. His Benz Patent-Motorwagen is widely regarded as the first true automobile with an internal combustion engine. While others experimented with motor vehicles, Benz created the first commercially viable petrol car.
