The entire skeleton of cartilaginous fishes (sharks, rays, skates) is composed of hyaline cartilage, which is a flexible, translucent cartilage type. Unlike bony fishes, their skeletons never ossify into bone. Hyaline cartilage provides both structural support and flexibility, allowing these fishes to maintain their streamlined shape while being lightweight.
