Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz independently developed calculus around the same time as Newton in the 17th century. Leibniz introduced the notation we use today (dx, dy, ∫), while Newton called his method 'fluxions'. Dewey, Bacon, and Darwin worked in different fields.
