The Royal Bank of Scotland Group (RBS), along with Sanctuary Asia magazine, announced the Earth Heroes 2009 on December 2, 2009. This is the 10th year of Sanctuary-RBS Wildlife Awards, which honour those who have dedicated their lives to India's rich natural heritage.

The Lifetime Service Award was conferred on Brijendra Singh of the Corbett Tiger Reserve for his outstanding contribution to Wildlife Conservation. The 'Wind Under the Wings' award was conferred on Vijay Pinjarkar, Special Correspondent, The Times of India. The 'Young Naturalist Awards' are presented to Aamod Zambre, Prosper S. Marak and Vishal Jayant Bhave. The 'Green Teacher Award' was jointly conferred on Dr. Marselin R. Almeida and Dr. Sarah. M. Almeida for their work in botany and taxonomy.
