George Stephenson, known as the 'Father of Railways,' built the first practical steam locomotive for the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 1825. His 'Rocket' locomotive (1829) set speed records and established the basic design for steam locomotives. Stephenson also developed the standard rail gauge used worldwide. Banting discovered insulin, Priestley discovered oxygen, and Binet developed intelligence tests.
