Triops are small crustaceans commonly known as tadpole shrimp. They are often called 'living fossils' because they have remained largely unchanged for over 300 million years, but they are not dinosaurs. Triops belong to the class Branchiopoda and are recognized by their shield-like carapace and three eyes (tri-ops means 'three eyes').
