Jaisalmer is called the Golden City because its architecture uses yellow sandstone that glows golden in the sunlight. The entire city, including the famous Jaisalmer Fort (one of the few living forts in the world), appears to be made of gold, especially during sunset when the sandstone structures reflect the desert light.
