The Godavari has the largest drainage basin among all peninsular rivers, covering approximately 313,000 square kilometers across Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. This is significantly larger than the basins of Narmada, Tapi, or Mahanadi. The extensive catchment area makes Godavari the most important river system in peninsular India.
