Freestyle wrestling (called 'koshti' in Persian) is Iran's national sport, with a rich wrestling tradition dating back thousands of years to ancient Persia. Iranian wrestlers have won numerous Olympic medals. Cricket, soccer (though popular in Iran), and buzkashi (a Central Asian sport played on horseback) are not Iran's national sport.
