Rajendra Chola I (1014-1044 CE), son of Rajaraja I, was the Chola king who first conquered Ceylon (present-day Sri Lanka) around 1017-1018 CE. He completed the conquest begun by his father and even adopted the title 'Cholapandya' for his victory. Aditya I expanded the Chola empire but did not conquer Ceylon, while Vijayalaya was the founder of the Chola empire.
